Regional Science Fair Success - but still a long way to go

Hello everyone, Recently, I had a nominal amount of success at my regional science fair. I was able to take a victory in the Physics category, made up of about 25% of the fair's total projects, and I also got a few organization awards too- including an invitation to a 3-day NASA camp at a nearby spa...

Re: Oil Transformer Demo Fusor Diagram

What I had in place before was the fusor chamber and transformer casing both connected to a wall outlet ground, however I connected a ground from the fusor chamber to the transformer instead, and it worked! I still suspected it was an issue with the diodes, so after I turned up the power all the way...

Oil Transformer Demo Fusor Diagram

Hello everyone, Here is my power supply system diagram for my demo fusor, using Richard Hull's neon transformer diagram in the FAQ. Would this diagram be feasible, especially with the way I used the USB dual channel data logger in the diagram? I'm pretty sure everything works correctly, I just want ...

Re: Edwards Active Pirani Gauge Reading

Nevermind, I might be the clumsiest person on this planet. I used the wrong pin layout for the RJ45 cable, which is why nothing would work. After fixing it, everything worked and I was able to calibrate it successfully. Then, I was able to pump down the system to around 4V, which the table says is a...

Re: Edwards Active Pirani Gauge Reading

It’s an L Gauge. I did what you guys suggested; I put together 3 new 9V batteries in a series and they produce around ~28 V, and connected them to pins 1 and 2. However, after hooking up the multimeter to pins 3 and 5, the output only goes to 400 mV and then resets and slowly goes back up, process r...

Edwards Active Pirani Gauge Reading

Hello All, I recently bought a NW-16 Edwards Active Pirani Gauge for reading vacuum levels to the milliTorr levels. I'm running into some issues regarding utilizing it with an RJ45 jack to be able to log data on my computer. Since you need to read/send voltage on a pin by pin basis, I was thinking o...

Neon Sign Transformer Help

Hello All, I'm currently looking for a neon sign transformer for my demo fusor. I know it can't be used for fusion fusor work, I'm just attempting to get a demo fusor built and then possible upgrading to a fusion fusor in the future. I understand you don't want ground fault protection on your NST, h...

Re: Double-Checking Diffusion Pump before Buying

Unfortunately, something happened to the pump a few hours after I posted the pump on here, either someone bought it or the seller took it down :(. However, you guys gave me a lot of good advice I can use shopping for one in the future. Thank you so much for helping me out. Big thanks to you too, Mic...

Double-Checking Diffusion Pump before Buying

Hey everyone, I'm very tight for money right now so I want to double-check before I make a costly mistake. I've been looking at the following diffusion pump: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Diffusion-Pump/272754756132?hash=item3f81734a24:g:OBoAAOSwSzRZOEd0#shpCntId I understand that it's water-cooled, but ...
