Hi everyone,

This is slightly off-topic, but I figure that some people might take interest. I'm currently working on designing a small-scale synchrotron (1m diameter or so).

I've got a web page dedicated to this project located at http://synchrotronmagic.com .

Has anybody heard of/tried building a synchrotron in a non-professional setting? I know that there have been several cyclotron builders--Sam Goldwasser, Fred Niell, to name a few--but no synchrotron builders.

The challenge is most definitely there; just the theory behind synchrotron operation and ion optics is VERY dense!

To be honest, I'm looking for help. I've got a general handle on everything involved, but it would take me decades to design and build by myself. If anybody's interested, please drop me a line at the e-mail above. Any help---even references, books that might be helpful---will be quite appreciated!

Thanks,
Raymond J.
