In searching for information on neutron detectors, I happened across this site and was impressed with the high level and professionalism of your discussions.
I have a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry (Ohio State, 1976), taught chemistry for several years, and worked for 18 years in the beryllium industry. My former associates have asked me to help relocate and upgrade an instrument that determines beryllium by the γ,n reaction, using an antimony-124 γ source and helium-3 proportional counters for detection of the emitted neutrons. The technique is reliable, fast, essentially non-destructive, and practically matrix-independent. I am troubleshooting a high background problem, which led me to your site.
While I have no current plans to build a fusor, there is much on your site from which I can learn, and perhaps I can contribute a little. |
