Venturi as a roughing pump?

Every fusor and fusion system seems to need a vacuum. This area is for detailed discussion of vacuum systems, materials, gauging, etc. related to fusor or fusion research.

Venturi as a roughing pump?

Post by jkelleyrtp »

Hi! A bit new here but I've been on the hunt for decent multipurpose vacuum pumps and came across the Venturi system... Does anybody know much about these things or if they're worth spending the same/a little bit less than a mechanical pump? They evacuate very fast, and get to about 600 mbar (one I'm looking at), so I was wondering if it would be a suitable roughing pump or if I need to get even lower to achieve a rough pressure. Anyways, the fusor isn't the first thing on my list and certainly isn't the last, so I was also curious what some of you guys use as a standard laboratory pump for lasers and the such. Thanks in advance!

Yes. Just over 3 orders of magnitude better vacuum, call it 4, before it can back a molecular pump.
