Superb 3He Corona tube paper

This area is for discussions involving any fusion related radiation metrology issues. Neutrons are the key signature of fusion, but other radiations are of interest to the amateur fusioneer as well.

Superb 3He Corona tube paper

Post by Richard Hull »

For those looking for a complete fleshout of how to make an amateur neutron detection scheme using these Russian tubes found on E-bay, Bob Higgins has done all the leg work and heavy lifting in his recent and superb 43 page paper on the subject. You will learn a lot relatedto neutron detection in general and about the details on how to make your own counter around these Special form of 3He tubes.

I have placed his important PDF paper in the files forum and will also place note related to it in the FAQs in this forum. I feel this paper is that important.

The current version is attached here as a PDF as well.

Fusion is the energy of the future....and it always will be
The more complex the idea put forward by the poor amateur, the more likely it will never see embodiment

Richard,

Thanks for posting, excellent paper..

The preamp developed by Bob Higgins is essentially the same solution that David Housley and myself developed and which I have listed on my site here.

These circuits won't give you a typical neutron spectrum because it's a trigger circuit, but they are virtually blind to gamma, so what you see are neutrons.

I have plenty of these circuit boards so just PM me if anyone wants to make their own.
