Yesterday we finally produced neutrons, we had been experimenting for two days already but we simply couldn't get the potential high enough without melting the grids. Eventually after tweaking with the pressure we finally managed to get the potential to rise without having to increase the amps.
We were working at 19.96kV 0.01A at a pressure of around 1.5E-1 mbar
At about 25 cm the BF3 neutron detector was reading 2.5 neutrons per second per square centimeter which after calculations gave us 7000 neutrons per second
EDIT: The pressure does still have to be multiplied by a certain factor because the ion gauge is callibrated for Nitrogen

Re: Neutrons
It looks as it you are doing it, but can the detector tube be easily removed from the moderator?

No it cannot, the moderator is part of the device.

Attached is the manual of the detector we used (upside down sadly enough)

In your original images, I see a container for a BTI bubble detector. Have you used that? How many bubbles were collected over what period?

Re: Neutrons
Sadly enough they were over 10 years old, they couldn't detect any neutrons anymore at this point.
