Archived - Fusor test pictures - update
Here are the latest pictures from my fusor runs; the best vacuum so far is about 30 microns. The heavy copper spiral grid worked well at -6kv, however it melted shortly due to copper’s lower melting point. A new spiral grid is in construction.

What was the diameter of your spiral grid ? The poisser looks much hotter and dense than in the traditional sphere grid. Are both photos operating at the same vacuum and voltage ?

The spiral grid was 0.75” in diameter, vacuum: 50 mTorr, -6kv.
When run the spiral grid (1/8” OD copper tube) heated up until it was red and then melted. When it was cool the poisser was well defined.
The spherical grid is 1” in diameter, vacuum: 25-30 mTorr, -3.5kv.
The spherical grid (woven fine gauge platinum wire) will remain cool when run at -3.5kv but produces a fairly diffuse poisser. If run at -6kv the grid will become white hot but no poisser will be visible.

Fusor test pictures - update2
This is the new spiral grid. It is made out of a nickel-silver brazing rod. Grid voltage was -7.5kv, vacuum was 30mtorr.
At this stage ion beam damage was occurring. A solid shield panel has been added and ion beams are directed into it using steering magnets.
