Hi Folks:
The gun is almost done... the controls are easy but time consuming none the less. It is set for a modest 10 kv to start with but an insulator that can support up to 35 kv for a top end of 70 kv collisional. The glass tube is the insulative tube to my metal fusor. (capped)

Looks good - Larry. I can't quite tell, but it looks like you have the center ring -like electrode connected to the HV insulator.
I still have yet to do the 30 kV runs, but the real data may get there first.

The reflex gun looks simple but it has taken all of three months to get it to center up with the design layout.
Conflat design is not really compatable with it.
I can see why you would want to mock up a prototype in pyrex.
You can see what you are doing!
I wanted a higher power version so I went to all conflat.
I had to build special hangers to get the enzel electrodes to their proper places with destroying electrical or physical placement.
I have yet to finish up the feed thrus.
I did a test welding on an extra conflat nipple,it was a vacuum nightmare so I silver soldered it
Now comes the real deal.
I hope to get it running before August.

I know what you mean about the pyrex mockup. That is/was/is what Tim Raney and I had/have in mind. Regardless of looking in glass or chancing it in SS, all setups are a bear! Slow to snail paced.

Per Richard's comments, I've made two Pyrex ion gun versions, but they are on the "back burner." I'm finishing up another electric "engine" for a customer, so that has taken priority.

I wanted to do it in pyrex but the power requirements and xray potentials of inelasic collisions was too great.
My electrodes are slid in on ceramic rods.
All alignment is done outside the tube.
Then glued in place.
The glue is ceramic cement... that can be fired in an electric oven to set.
I'm trying key chains as the connection at the low voltage caps.
They just touch the top of the enzel lenses.
The high voltage is an extender screwed into the center electrode.

This particular form of reflex device is flawed.
It only delivers a small N/s due to the small 1/2" dees.
To make this device work really well will take a much larger device. So higher potentials can be used.
