... of course not a bare belljar! But sticking an aluminum can inside the belljar
sure was a cheap alternative to full metal jacket.
Fusion was seen during a series of 20 runs (10 background, 10 fusion) in
April of this year using activation of indium metal.

This is further proof of what can happen when you ignore the message "you can't do that." Like Cliff Gardner said after Zworykin expressed surprise at how Cliff fabricated the Image Dissector tubes, 'we didn't know it couldn't be done, so we just went ahead and did it."

Hi Jason:
Looks really good.
My tin cans never looked that good.
At some point in the future the fusor tube reactor could be the embodyment of the Mr Fusion of science fiction.
Mass produced like vacuum tubes with a replenisher for fueling .
Run until done then recycle it.
Happy Fusoring!

You convinced me, know where I can get a bell jar LOL
By the way, how hard would It be to sputter a thin gold plate on the inside of the jar, and get rid of the can?

Re: Fusion in a belljar...
You can get stainless steel bell jars. A sputter coating is too thin to protect against x-rays or heating damage.
Once I get my demo fusor debugged, I plan to just "can" it like this.

Where was I last year ?! I totally missed this one. I attempted this around the same time with poor results. On my setup the small viewport in the can poured out tremendous heat. This caused uneven heating to the bell jar. I discontinued this idea as I thought even the best pyrex couldnt withstand such abuse. How did you get around this issue ?

This probably worked only due to the internal metal chamber saving the glass from direct bombardment by electron beams.
