This is an old published article I did for the (SAS Society of Amateur Scientists....1996) It tell about hamfests and gives a few tips about how to navigate your way around when attending one.

This paper remains dated is some ways. Like my exhortation to have everyone wear a watch so you can all meet back at the car at a given time. Well, cell phones were not common in 1996. Now you can just text of call your family and riding buddies and tell them to get to the car as you going to leave them behind if they aren't back at the car in 15 minutes. Many items to be had for cheap in 1996 are either no longer available or are now highly prized and expensive. Boat anchors are rare now.

A good array of tools are also found at hamfests. This means both hand tools and power tools up to light duty drill presses and very small lathes!
Hardware nuts and bolts are found in mint boxes of 100 or in baggies of 25 or more at about 1/10th the price found at hardware stores.

Get out there in the new hamfest world and get those goodies!!
