Chart of the nuclides and X-section plotting

Post by Richard Hull »

The following URL is pretty good. It is a chart of the nuclides (useful for neutron induced isotope tracking).

Also, near the bottom of the page is a handy automatic plotter for nuclear cross sections. It can be daunting to use for those not familiar with the lingo, but I just used it to plot the x-section for Gadolinium. (I have some foil)
I just typed in Gd-157=1 for the plot of the neutron cross section generator. I left the thing open for its natural defaults.

The result was a nice plot for neutrons from a hellish 10mev to a freezing cold .00001ev. Gadolinium is a real neut stopper with a cross section of 40,000 barns for simple thermals to 10 million barns for cold neuts. Compare this to the mere milibarns for D2!

Fusion is the energy of the future....and it always will be
The more complex the idea put forward by the poor amateur, the more likely it will never see embodiment
