Uranium chemistry discussion

Post by Carl Willis »

I have concluded (for the time being anyway) a little DIY guide to the chemistry of uranium.

Some fusioneers might find this useful for the fabrication of various instrumentation, for building fusor-driven subcritical assemblies, and just for fun.

Interesting stuff.
I wonder what you do with the "spent ore". The acid will probably extract most of the radium and radiolead (among others) from the rock and the carbonate will precipitate it. Is the stuff you filter off to get the lovely green solution hot?

Carl,

Nicely layed out article, great presentation. I might try some of these extractions up at a few mine sites this summer if I get time. Great way to haul out concentrates without tons of gangue. If you generate a series of articles, it may be worth publishing them, I would be willing to purchase a copy for reference.

Thanks,

Mike Donovan
