New Middle Schooler Here!

Post by Soren_Rollin »

Hello everyone! I am a 13 year old going into the 8th grade. I have been fascinated with science and coin collecting since I was around 4. Within the past years Ive wanted to build a fusor (within the past year or so). So I came here, I may be working with 2 other friends of mine on this. So thanks!

Oh and any help is greatly appreciated. Im rather new to this, and thought it would be a cool idea when I started getting more in-deppth to quantum and classical mechanics. I have already figured out how to get the D2 for my reactor, now tritium, hmmmm. Keychanins!? ;)

Welcome to the board!

I do need to say, though: Tritium is not used by anybody here and (depending on what country you live in) may be seriously illegal to use even if it is legal to buy in keychains/watches/exit signs. At least in the USA, it's Very Bad to do anything with an exit sign other than hang it by a door or return it to the manufacturer.

You first steps will probably be getting a handle on vacuum and high voltage.

I know this is highly delayed, I wandered off into the field of Tesla Coils but I'm back now lol. Last I heard was that tritium watches were only illegal being dubbed a improper use of the material, but that keychains were legal-- I may be mistaken. You say that nobody here uses tritium, then what do they use? Ill do a bit more research.

Read the FAQs. Removing tritium from the vial it was purchased in can result in lengthy jail time, at least in the US.

Any use of Tritium by a person not licensed by the NRC is a federal crime. Tritium is only legal in devices made for public use. Large items like exit signs require registration at the time of purchase by the purchaser to the manufacturer, who is the licensee. Thus, the signs are traceable and must be returned, by law, in good condition by the purchaser to the manufacturer when they are no longer to be used for the purpose intended.

Breaking into any tritium illumination device is a federal crime.

As noted in the FAQs, we will not tolerate any postings where tritium is said to actually be used in a fusor. Such posts will be deleted immediately and the user's membership revoked.

Again, We are limited to the use of only deuterium in our fusors, (D-D). Many claim they are working on P-B11 or 3He-D fusion, but no amateur has ever done it to the level of proof to our critical review.

Fusion is the energy of the future....and it always will be
The more complex the idea put forward by the poor amateur, the more likely it will never see embodiment
