Potentially Exciting

Post by Steven Sesselmann »

Hi Guys,

I am from Sydney Australia and have an interest in physics. Fusion is one of
the things I have spent a lot of time thinking about, and yesterday I was sitting
on a four hour flight thinking about the possibility of creating a spherical
chamber with a low potential by using layers of grids with a potential voltage
difference. As soon as I got to the internet I ran a few searches and found this
site. Happy to have found the site, and disappointed to see that the idea is 45
years old. I think you guys are on the right track....

Hi Chris:

Welcome!

As Richard has noted,we will discuss outside the welcome forum.

Solar is just another form of fusion ya know.
I have been pursueing a two track system for the past coupla years.

It is detailed in a post in Fusion Powered Future under...

2002-04-20 11:31 What to do until the fusion jackpot hits (3l) [Latest: ] (13)

The youngest member was 14 at the time.
We have plenty of Intel science award winners here.
You can actually get scholarship money from a science fair.
See the fusor list in general topics to get the names.

The first fusors used RF but we use DC because it is cheaper and easier. We use a variation on the original Farnsworh fusor.
Gene Hirsh discovered if you align the grids you get 90% transparency to the ions leaving the reaction zone. (Don't beat me Richard!)

Welcome!
We have been at this a long time now.
We have yet to have one run by itself.
We need all the people we can find!

The garage fusor has been a blast to work with ,work on and get worked on.
People still freak out at the mention of it.

My dad worked for Dage TRW in the 60's that is where I first heard of Farnsworth.
I worked for SAC with the non friendly atom.

I'm a philosophy degreed retired physics teacher.
We all come from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
We get roudy sometimes but we are a desciplined group of about half elders and half kids...in our wildest dreams would we not have thought this business would become so large.
Since you have had a chance to look at the website, don't worry there is no test.
Most of the core researchers have day jobs and do this part time.
Don't worry everyone is new at this stuff...even the "old" hands
Don't worry it is a catch as catch can kinda thing.
And no we don't do funny hats and robes prostrate in front of a univerisity to do stuff ....most don't. I don't.

After 6 years of working in this stuff...it's still pretty stimulating... dive in ...the waters are fine.
Technically tho I was hooked on fusion in 1962 by those darn AEC Pamplets!

We need all the people we can find!

We had to be a bit different in recruitment.
Like Shangrila only the people interested will show and sign in.
This stuff is a true calling...you couldn't get people to do it on a bet...if they didn't want to.
The people who need to be here will come.
My non Tech friends have no clue what I do out back in the shack.

We are a child of Ebay really ....most of our equipment ,parts, and manuals come from Ebay.

l deal with folks in Lituannia,The Russian Republic,England all the time.
This ole dirt ball planet is getting really small in the global scheme of things.

Everything high tech is seen and delivered on Ebay these days.
The local advantage disappeared 10 years ago in Tech gear.
In fact UPS will go to Antartica for only a 25 dollar US more in charge.

Our most visble media star.....
That was probably Craig Wallace that appeared in Wired.
If so he created fusion and neutrons in his minipulsed fusor.
Virtually everone that has built one of these fusors has made it work....eventually.

Another alumni is Tom Ligon he built the first demo fusor back in 97 then Richard Hull and then Mr Little (he was in Analog Magazine...look below)

Yes we have many chemists here at the fusor forum.
Did you not take Physical Chemistry?
Most of the atomic stuff is covered in a good pchem book.
We tend not to be math driven here but most of us engineering types will explain.

Check out books and references forum for good background and interesting stuff.
Some of the data is only found in books.
How rude you say!
Well the fusion quest predates the Internet by almost 40 years.
So if ya want hard food on fusion ..books are it.

Currently I'm following up the linac work with continous high power pulse fusor work.

Data is very necessary to this work.
Proper proceedure is a must. If ya don't know ask!
The only stupid question is the unasked one.
No one can know everything! Get used to it.

Just who do we think we are?:

Our newbie section is not so low level as to be boring.
I would use it first.
Secondly would be the "Songs"
And thirdly would be the Intranet postings
Fourthly would be the Books & References Forum....plenty of food for thought.

This group has covered a lot of ground since it started in 1997. We are on our third web site.

We are still in the research stage.
Engineering stage is a while away.
But you Already knew that!

As a Service to all fusion people we have the following

The original patents are on Bert Poole's website:

For photos and more advanced fusor designs:
The info you seek is in the Farnsworth Chronicles in the intro use it!

The Farnswoth museum has pics under photos then nuclear fusion .

Ryan Edgar created the website you see here.
He also is the webmaster of the site.

Our original webmaster of previous websites and the host of the present one, Paul Schatzkin (The Perfessor) has published a book, "The Boy Who Invented Television: A Story of Inspiration, Persistence, and Quiet Passion." It is, as the title says, a biography of Philo T. Farnsworth, who did indeed devise the system of television we still use today in 1921, when he was 14 years old. His life story is to be made into a movie soon.

Now that you are a member you can post in fusor construction and image de jour,in fact any of the rellavent forums would do.
The intro forum is just that... an intro...most members will miss it
here!
The members are always interested to see what folks are up to!

Overwealmed?
