Single-Stage Vacuum Pump For Demo Fusor

Post by Johannes Toppe »

Hi all,
Me and a friend are currently constructing a demo fusor and are tight on money. Found a nice new 4.5CFM single-stage vacuum pump on Amazon and we were wondering if it would be good enough for a demo system (https://www.amazon.com/Single-Stage-Ref ... acuum+pump). Could it work?
Thanks

Hello,

Nice to see that you've chosen to join the forum. We just ask (as detailed in the beginning) that you introduce yourself first. For a demo fusor this pump will do just fine and should work to achieve your goal. But just looking at the specs, It seems very likely that the CFM would be so high... I would watch out there. Also, you need a two stage pump for an actual fusor so if your planning to make that afterwards, then you might as well not waste your money and just go ahead and buy a two stage pump. As per usual, make sure to consult the FAQ's first and just as a tip, being a patient ebay buyer is always how you win at this game.

Beyond the cost there is no such thing as too much CFM capability provided you have a good trap on the foreline. Extra CFM just gets a small chamber down faster.

Oops! I meant to take the CFM part out. The save draft option can be confusing at times...
