Demo fusor research possibilities??

For a science fair project a friend and I are constructing a demo fusor. We analyzed our system (which simply lacks the rubber seal for the chamber) and have determined that the only thing we can adjust is the voltage input to the inner and outer grid.
We had some research ideas, mainly attempting to confine the electron cloud using the inner grid, but we were advised not to due that. We could observe the effects of different voltages on the plasma, notably color and light intensity-we would compare our results to the range of plasmas chart down below. We might want to simulate the size and strength of the magnetic fields in FEMM and overlay the simulation results onto photos of our demo fusor to compare and try and see the results of the different sizes of magnetic fields. (We read that amperage affects the strength of the magnetic field, and voltage the size.)
Any suggestions or ideas??
