If you happen to turn on a TeeVee today... hell, if you look at a video screen (actually, you're looking at a video screen NOW) ... tip a nod toward Philo T. Farnsworth, who delivered electronic video to the planet 90 years ago today...
In 1977 (FORTY years ago!) I worked in concert with Farnsworth's eldest son Philo III and his widow Pem to gather some of the still-living members of the original Farnsworth Lab Gang. Cliff Gardner built a fully-functional replica of the Image Dissector that produced the first successful electronic video transmission, and we celebrated the "Golden Anniversary' at the Foothill Museum in Palo Alto.
CBS and NBC covered the event.
Here is Terry Drinkwater's report on the CBS Evening News : https://youtu.be/euCjwgoKgP4
And here is as snippet from Jack Perkins coverage on NBC featuring our recreation of "the first picture:" https://youtu.be/xQv5KMkmIrM
I've written a bit more about subject, and the Big Occasion that will pass mostly overlooked today, over at http://farnovision.com
