Getting ready to build!

Post by Marko Fejzo »

Hello,
I have been compiling a list of important parts in preparation of building my fusor, and was wondering if you would be able to look over some of them in order to see if they would sustain the environment needed for fusion.

Transformer- Will be taken from an old CRT monitor I have- I read somewhere that we can get voltages between 20 and 40 kV from this (not sure until I open up the monitor)

Ceramic Standoff - http://www.vetco.net/catalog/product_in ... oChJ7w_wcB

Threaded bars: http://www.screwfix.com/p/n-a-threaded- ... of-5/69879

Stainless steel vessel and rubber gasket. Does anyone have a good recommendation on where to get these? We want to try to make our vessel leak-free so we’re not sure which sellers to trust.

Thermocouple sensor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Teledyne-Hastin ... 4897.l4275

Thermocouple Controller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENTLY-USED-HAS ... 4897.l4275

Vacuum Grease: http://www.skygeek.com/dow-corning-976v ... oCwj7w_wcB

Vacuum Pump: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leybold-Trivac- ... 1e9a324050
This unit is said to have an ultimate pressure of 2E-3 mbars. Do you think this is low enough for us to achieve fusion, or will we need something more powerful?

Thanks,
Marko and Ben

You really need to do some reading. Every single question you asked here has been answered countless times by others and more importantly in the FAQs. This community will not spoon feed you information. You need to do the research yourself. If you hit a snag not answered, then post. This type of post belongs in the new users area too.

We have read the FAQ as well as numerous other posts, and have done the research ourselves. We just wanted to double check with someone more knowledgable to make sure that these specific parts would suit our needs before we spend a significant amount of money on them. Is that an unreasonable thing to ask?

If you have read the FAQs then you should know that several of those parts will not work. For example your feedthrough and transformer. There are numerous posts and FAQs on why. Please go back and be sure you read (and understand) every FAQ as a lot of your questions are already answered there. If you still are having trouble, move this discussion to the new user chat area (will probably have to resubmit post) and we will help explain.
