Learning to TIG Weld?

Post by Bijan Moradi »

Basically there is not a makerspace near me.

How can I learn to tig weld using a machine in my house on my own? I know how to MIG weld from my days in High School autoshop.

Thanks,

Check if there's a technical or vocational school in your area. I took a hands on TIG welding course at our local technical college.

You can, I used to teach tig welding. Its not that hard.

A used Miller Maxstar 150 would be a good start (I also used to be a Miller certified tech)

To add to Jon's suggestion, my favorite two youtube channels for TIG welding are weldingtipsandtricks and tigtime. Tons of great info contained in their numerous videos. If you already have a TIG setup at home I found stacking beads on a small 4"x4" aluminum sheet a great way to start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwB4PESPAlI

I did a Tig welding course (night course) last year. Before that, I studied the basis through Youtube. I was working, so I was able to attend only the night course. But after getting certification I really feel satisfied. It is a worthy course.
