Daniel, if you look at what Dr. Miley and his group at UI have been doing you will find that they also use pulse power supplies. They have found that it is almost impossible or just not practical to get neutron count measurements through conventional detectors such as the BF3.

To resolve the problem associated with pulse and EM interference they use silver activation detection to get their final measurements. I think EG&G makes some really good activation counter equipment.

Also a friend of mine also points out that the increase in reactions or neutrons must be averaged like the pulse and that is why silver activation is so reliable for getting your true neutron production count and therefore the reaction rate count.

In Dr. Miley's device they use DC to keep the system going while the device is pulsed. So, it is DC driven and then they use a pulse to increase the currents through a short period which then dissipates over time. Because the dissipation is not immediate they try to match the next pulse with the dissipation rate.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Hector
