I would not worry Tom about the feds involvement. They have a lot bigger fish to fry than a few fusion geeks.
I am more worried about the wrong petty bureaucrat looking for instant advancement at the NRC finding out that he could ride to the top on a wave of amateur fusion hysteria which he or she could whip into a mountain from the nearly invisible molehill it is. With the correct hysterical spin, a little minor media coverage and ultimately a 60 minutes segment, we could be the "bright young minds gone bad" set so eagerly portrayed by the modern media. Foaming mouthed policos and fearful citizenry out for blood would be the activation and more laws and regulations would be the result.
Fortunately we are in a www backwater and a closed group of armchair folk numbering about 50 lurkers at any one instant for the most part. (You can figure only about a quarter of the signups will ever read any of this stuff and only 2-4% will do anything.) I figure most signups are www techie-rubbernecks who read a bit and never return (either to dull, too real, or no conspiracy).
I would not worry needlessly about the knock on the door or th' Crown Vic outside.
