While I have no issue personally with paying (I think the forum is great, and I'd be happy to pay for it). However, I think that it will definitely discourage new members from joining. We would keep the 'core' people of the forum, but lose all (or at least most) potential for growth.
I would also expect that there would be some people who aren't interested enough in this to pay, but would be valuable contributors nevertheless.
Overall, I'd prefer to move to somewhere free and *really* open, but if it comes down to paying or nothing, I'll pay.
