You're right Jim, an "essential" mission statement should be brief. How does this strike you:
"The mission of Fusor.net is to foster the growth of an "open source" community dedicated to the realization of Nuclear Fusion through experimentatin with the Farnsworth Fusor and its variations."
If I get any feedback on this, I'll add it as a "preamble" to the expanded mission statement doc I posted yesterday.
