I too find this service a bit cumbersome. I've been using the Newsgroups (Usenet) for several years, and recently started using egroups too. (However, I do like the ability to edit a post AFTER it's been posted!)
If you would like to check out how e-groups works, got to http://www.egroups.com/group/sherline for a good example.
There are two Farnsworth Fusor groups on e-groups, but not much activity. See:
