This new site - I almost love it...

I am sort of getting used to this new site now and after an initial grumble session, I have settled in to it. Remember, we have only been here 1 month. The grumbling has somewhat subsided. The perfesser works his can off tiding up things and helping us and the newbies. He has also up-loaded the old stuff for when the old BBS plug gets pulled. I have started a forum on neutron/radiation detection, etc.

I really love the separated discussion zones all rounded up under a general topic board. I like the new message counting system so you can tell if there might be anything new in a particular discussion forum. I really like the ability to include files like jpg pix, etc. Also, a single nice location for useful URL's is nice as well.

I miss the single source continuous listing going back to day one, but this is offset by the catagorized forums (no thousand message eyeball searches.) I miss the totally linear time flow for all messages. (though they are organized date wise within a forum)

It is not the best of places, nor the worst. It is getting better each day as I get my "sea legs" on this ship.

Before we were in a row boat and it doesn't get much more straight forward or simple. We were limited, but happy in a way until we wanted to send a picture or a file. We had to search the whole ocean to find anyhting.

We have moved up to a yacht and we just have to acclimatize ourselfs to all the rooms, cabins, doorways and shortcuts on this new vessel. Yeah, sometimes I miss the row boat, but I don't want to give up the comforts and features of the yacht. The ship's radar allows searches to be more limited in scope via forums. (This assumes all crew members are smart enough to drop their messages into the right forum topic.)

I am getting more happy on board each day as the capn', th' perfesser works his butt off adding stuff and up-loading old files. I even added a new forum recently on Neutron/radiation detection.

I hope others are finding this change less daunting each day. The newbies have the upper hand here as they have little or no experience with our old row boat.

I have to stop cryin' in my beer now and enjoy the new site at last.
