I have contacted the Intranets helpdesk and expressed our reservations/objections to the doubleclick pop ups. They respond that they "are looking into the frequency" of the ads.
This site is on their standard (free) model, which is obviously advertising supported. There is a "pay" option, but it costs $5.00 per member per month - which in this case would add up to more than $500! so I don't think that's a viable option for us at the moment.
I hope the Doubleclick pop ups will not be too offensive. I don't think anybody wants to have to move again.
