I agree that fast fusion is not mature. That's really the point. The one research project going was cancelled, even though it showed remarkable promise. I think part of the problem is that the nuclear power industry likes it this way. Currently they pull their "waste" out of their reactors and store it onsite. As fossile fuel prices rise, they will start building more standard fission facilities. When all of the easily obtained uranium is mined, it will "suddenly" become economical to reuse all of that waste in a fast reactor.
Another example of our stellar leadership in this country.
