Re[2]: Why We Need Fusion

Clay points to what I have said all along on this and the old BBS. Fission will be king perhaps sooner than we think.
However, I don't think the complaints will stop from the environmentalists..........they'll just be ignored or will be drowned out by mr. and ms. america screamin' about no TV or no Computer time due to continuous brown outs or power outages. The masses must be mollified at all costs! A maxim politicians live and die by.

The main stream taxpayer will just simply demand electricity and they WILL have it! You can go to th' bank with that one. Concerned minorities will remain just that and be ignored. Extremist minorities will be isolated (mostly by their own rhetoric) or crushed by force of arms at the public's behest.

Fission is the future for the immediate short haul. It will be our savior in dark future times. Fission has always walked amoung us, much abused and cursed because we used him to kill first, and he was always considered dirty and threatening. We may yet be forced to literally beat our swords into plowshares. This being to take the dangerous fissile bomb grade material and make a bunch of hot breeders to satisfy an emergency ground swell demand for future power.

Anything that is used to produce trillions of megawatts of electrical energy, world wide, in small localized stations, will always pose a threat to people, the environment, or the stability of governments. It is a threat that we might seek to minimize, but we will never elimenate it totally, not even with fusion power.
