Re[5]: Why We Need Fusion

The goverment has a three hundred year supply of enriched uranium sitting around the Pantex Storage Facility.
Plutoniun pits could be recycled as MOX fuel by mixing
with plain old Uranium 238. However this crop of boiling water reactors are prone to meltdowns in the core if any operating errors occur. Before my accident, I was training to be a nuclear operator at Arkansas Nuclear One. During my training, I learned from my reactor operations instructor
that the reaction time required to prevent a melt down was
on the order of 28 milliseconds in order to SCRAM a reactor.
My instructor had worked on the HTGR system in Colorado, the design rational was that accidents were unpreventable, so design a reactor that would not melt easily.

All BETS ARE OFF FOR BREADERS !!!!

Critical assembly is just too easy.
Imagine Chernoble with a 2 kiloton kicker.

The fallout from a Breader like the Phoenix in France
would take out nearly all of Europe and parts of Russia and Asia.
