Re[7]: Why We Need Fusion

Hello Clay

The reactor designers used the reactor system that was designed for aircraft carriers. The unit I was destined for
was Three Mile Island's cousin built about the same time.
The report you seek was the WASH 760 report conducted by the AEC in the sixties. Boiling water reactors were run dry
out in the desert... results had to buried in place.
Yes I have read about the integrally safe shutdowns but they ran balls of europium down the control holes. The government is the only place such updates could be used,
commercial power can not afford to use them! Where do you think rare earths compounds come from mainly? China of course.
The only civilian book I have seen on this subject was
"We Almost Lost Detroit" . In this book it covers many failed reactor tests and accidents involving naval power reactors. The most famous accident involving the first
breader reactor the Fermi 1 is most enlightening.
A very good book is McFee's "Curve of Binding Energy" has some accident info in it. The neatest new book is called
"One Point Safe" about how our government is helping out the
Soviet balance of payments by buying up U235 in ton lots.
Looks like the government is doing it's darned best to go nuclear.
