Isn't it interesting how indifference can be more powerful than a most carefully worked conspiracy? In industrial R&D efforts, the so-called probability of success estimate is frequently used to rank projects for funding and support.

When you are still learning how a thing works, and are as yet unable to build a commercial prototype, then probability of success has more to do with the research management patience index, than with physics. Frequently strong industrial management interest spans only a year or two, favoring short term "easy" projects.

The fusor clearly did not fit that category.
