Early Amateur Neutron Generator
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

Once upon a time I had a copy of an article that appeared in that most wonderful of technical journals "Review of Scientific Instruments" that described what I think was probably the first amateur built neutron generator. It was a potential drop system (van de Graaff). The date of publication was somewhere around 1960, I think (definitely before 1968).

Has anybody ever run across this article? It'd be interesting to know what the level of neutron production was.

This machine was very similar to the commercial neutron generator manufactured by Texas Nuclear (the manual for which I do have) except that the TN system used a transformer power supply.
