Dave's understanding is close, but the thought is, and this is theroy based on best guess, that the ions recirculate within the machine. This is not the case in our fusors as they operate with relatively short mean free paths. Ours is a "crasher-collider". We work only due to quantity production and the micron fusor we operate will probably never be a net power producer. (vast loss mechanisms operative).
A single order of magnitude reduction in pressure will alllow considerable reciculation in a small device. This is where a bit of experimentation will be good.
