The IEC-SS operates at a much lower electron energy (<100 kev compared with >200 Mev in a synchrotron), but still gives the same X-ray energy due to the small-scale bending radius associated with the electron--electron interactions.

Could this really be true? Over 2000 times less energy to produce X-rays than a synchrotron? Wow, that makes the $megabucks spent on such projects as the synchrotron light source at Lawrence Berkeley look like more wated taxpayer money.
