The problem with large-scale fusion attempts mentioned in Richard's post above becomes catastrophic when the protocol follows the design for hydrogen bombs. Billions of degrees and psi hammers the reaction in a brute force fashion. Haven't these people heard of simple "leverage?" Angulation pries the nucleus and enables the manifestation of table-top fusion.
