Is neutron detection and counting more complex or less complex than this?: http://www.pma.caltech.edu/~derose/labs/exp13.html
I can't think of a more daunting task for an outsider like myself, than to set up neutron instrumentation. I have lunch on a daily basis with two nuc med physics guys, both PhD's. These are the people who think nothing of blasting some poor cancer victim with 6,000 rads, and they know less about neutron detection and counting than I do, which isn't much.
I have thought about getting help from some of my old contacts in the Univ. of Minnesota Department of Physics. Then I remembered what jerks those academic types can be, I would rapidly loose all control of this project.
Oh well, I will just try to learn as much as I can and keep an eye out for the necessary hardware. Yes, I have a good job and no kids, but I have a wife who would kill me if I spent 1K$ for a 19" long box full of electronics, maybe I could tell her that it will play DVD's.
Does anyone have a block diagram for the bare bones neutron setup, power supply, PMT, discriminator, linear gate pulse streacher counter and such?
Tom
