Thanks for the info Dave, it's very hard to obtain certain info by just scanning app notes and data sheets as a certain level of knowledge and background is assumed. You just filled in a few holes about what I actually need in a good PMT preamp design. I'm surprised the old 2n2222 has such a high frequency cutoff, but then i'm used to BC547,8,9 as my trnasistor mainstay. I've also heard that a metal can transistor will be lower in noise due to a passivated internal crystal (die?, element??) than a plastic one with plastic in direct contact with the active element, is that true?? does it make much difference compared to PMT noise?.
