"Snoopy" has Arrived
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

I just recieved an old Tracerlabs "Snoopy" neutron detector. Not working, of course, but the electronics look clean and the unit does not display any signs of obvious abuse, so I have some hope of getting it working. This one uses a cylindrical moderator rather than spherical, so it might be a bit orientation sensitive. However, the makers of the unit very thoughtfully put feet on one end of the moderator, so that the whole thing can be stood up on one end. This is the orientation I will probably use to take measurements. There is an audio/headphone outlet with plug-in speaker, an output for a chart recorder, and a separate BNC jack for a scaler as well, along with the requisite analog meter.

Anyway, one big question - this thing takes a largish battery - I suspect it might be a 6V lantern cell, as the cavity for the battery closely resembles the size. Also, the battery terminals are ring lugs on the end of wires, which is also a bit suggestive. Those of you with detectors of the Eberline persuasion, could you advise on the supply voltage for your detector electronics? I will continue to root around for documentation on this detector. Any suggestions would be helpful.
