You probably have a nice BF3 or He3 tube which detects slow neuts, therefore the large polyethylene moderator block allows it to also count fasts. It should be fine for your purposes.

A general calibration point if you have no user's manual for the meter, and the device is a health physics neutron rate meter, is about 7-8 neutrons/sqcm/sec against the tissue RPG curve will give a 1 millirem reading for 2.45mev fusion neuts.
