During the course of the week I decided to go counter to my normally niggardly ways and spring for both the surplus BF3 tube & NIM electronics that Don Orie proposed and the Aware PMI-30.
The tube arrived today (well, almost - it's at the Post Office awaiting pickup Sat AM). Don will have the NIM stuff tested in due course (his testing capabilities are currently backed up). And the PMI-30 should arrive in about a week or so.
I ordered the PMI with the widest voltage range possible (about 300 volts to 3000 volts) so it should be compatible with about any G-M, proportional or neutron tube, or photomultiplier that I'd throw at it.
Richard Hull has offered to try the tube and PMI-30 with his fusor so I'll know if that configuration works and how it compares with his neutron counters.
