Neutron Data - counting-detection-production
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

All,

This notice is just to key in every one on the list to one of the nicest sources of data on the WWW which Steve Hansen has ferreted out and posted in the "interesting links" forum.

If you need to know about neutrons, neutron counting neutron sources and can't get the two volume set - "Neutron Physics", then print out the PDF files pointed to in Steve's link regarding "LANL data" in the "links forum".

Be ready for some time on line and have lots o' paper in the printer, but when finished, you'll have a Jim Dandy Neutron reference from one of the most authoritative labs in the US and it will be relatively current.

A simple example of how I have learned already....

Trivia, yes, but did you know that U238 is considered "Fertile"?!!

We all knew U235 was Fissile, but Fertile refers to even-even heavy isotopes which can not be induced to fission with low energy neutron bombardment.

So what!!

Well this is why a "fission counter" is an interesting form of fast neutron counting instrument.

Read all about it......

Thanks Steve,

Richard Hull
