The Hummer V
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

Today while looking for a vacuum pump, I found a junked Hummer V made by Technics. The thing is on wheels? It was apparently used to sputter samples for scanning electron microscopy. I got it for $400.00 including two WORKING analog thermocouple guages (CVC #CTC063 on the fore pump side, and Hastings DV32 on the turbo pump side). The meters are not compressed on the low end! I tested the Welch 1400 pump and I can get only 35 microns. I will try changing the oil but it may need a rebuild. It came with a Pfeiffer TPU050 turbo pump cooling fan and controller, no connectong cable. I think the controller is toast. If anyone knows where I can get a controller, please help! I would like to get this turbo going to make some serious suction.
It also came with a box full of "accessories" stainless steel vacuum valves (manual & pneumatic), elbows, bleed valves, bellows tubing and connectors. These connectors use an O ring between two flanges clamped with a split ring and wing nut. Does anyone have experience with these connectors? Are they ok for high vacuum work?
