Certainly agree with everything Steve has written here... One "goop" type of thread sealant I've had good experience using is SWAK. It is teflon paste suspension, I think. It does need some time for the liquid (think it is water) in the paste to dry out. You can bake it to at least 150C. It would often seal stubborn leaks that the Teflon tape couldn't handle.
