Vacuum System Logs
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

Not sure if this has been addressed somewhere else but with all the talk about base pressures, gas ballasts, traps and so forth I just want to stress that it is very useful to keep some sort of consistent log for system maintenance and operation for each pumpdown cycle. Make notes of date and time, when the oil was changed, when system mods were made, how long it takes to reach some specific pressure, ultimate base pressure, etc. Also any other related information such as ambient humidity and so forth.

A written log is essential but a great supplement is an actual curve of the pumpdown which can be gotten with a datalogger connected to your vacuum gauge. If you don't want to tie up your PC with datalogging, get an Onset Hobo datalogger ( www.onsetcomp.com ) so you can download your data at your convenience. You can even get them through Radio Shack.

As you build up your data base you will see how various factors influence the operation of the system. Also you will have a library of information that will prove to be immensely helpful if things all of a sudden don't seem right.
