Yes, especially after flogging this thing for so long.
It seems to me that one of the advantages of the valve is that with it open the pump gets really hot(140 F)! Without the valve, or with the valve closed the pump only got warm to the touch (115 F). I assume that the higher temp drives the water and other junk out of the oil.
