By asking around I found out that one company does use it, it's ordered by the distributor exclusively for them and they only take what they need often leaving a small quantity (more than I need) to boil away. By showing up with my own bottle at the right time I can often get usable quantities for free.
Also, by using smaller diameters of copper tube and ganging them in groups of four for a single pump you can get the same effect of having heat transfer fins inside the pumps.
