Well, here's what the tag says: Fischer Imaging Corp, March 1985. Volts: 230 Continuous Amps: 5 Max. Amps: 125
I don't have 230 volts available for this thing- I should get all the voltage I need for a fusor with a 20-amp, 120 volt variac. If I need to go higher than about 40 kV, I'll have to get a 230-volt line. I can certainly believe what you said about the rectifier being easy to blow, but I still think that it would be a tough job to blow the transformer secondary with 120 volts in on the primary, if it can handle (deduced from the ratings) about 200 mA intermittently. (the 20-A breaker in the wall would cut out most likely.) Not that I want to turn the thing into a jacob's ladder or anything like that, but mistakes can happen, arcs can occur...
