URLs for the colliding beam folks are http://sun5.ps.uci.edu or http://fusion.ps.uci.edu/beam/introb.html

This approach uses a solenoid to confine circulating particle beams, with the current level high enough in the beams to cause field reversal. In the papers presented on the site, the authors propose a novel approach to recovery of energy from X-rays generated by bremsstrahlung (something that may be useful for a full-sized fusor, if it ever comes to pass...). So far this project has gotten at least $20 million in funding. No hardware yet, as far as I've seen.

>A small correction - the folks I had in mind are touting a reversed field colliding beam technology, not a reversed field pinch. I don't have the URL for their web site off the top of my head, but if you load Infoseek with "reversed field colliding beam", it gets you right there... They also have papers available for download. An interesting concept, but not anything I'm going to building in my garage any time soon...
