Hmmmm.... if it is a Gast type graphite vane pump and has a fairly small pump body, (maybe twice the size of your fist),it will not do too well. These rarely go below 100 torr. You need to be in the millitor range.

Have you tried this pump against a thermocouple type vacuum gauge?

The newer oil-less plastic vaned fore pumps are really nice but cost thousands. Even then, they only go to 100 microns (millitorr).
