You might ask about sensors that didn't past mfr test due to small defects. For hobby purposes, you probably don't need the full performance, and depending what their mfr flow is, you might be able to persuade them to let you have one cheap. Since these are made on a basic semi fab with ion implant, there are going to be inevitable variations in process, and they're going to have some scrap.
